Workshops
For the past 15 years, I've had the pleasure of teaching creative writing to students all ages, from middle schoolers to community college. I have taught at the Liberty State Fictions Writers annual conference, for the Maine Romance Writers , the New Jersey Romance Writers, as well as several libraries and adult schools. For Adults
Active Voice: An explanation of the difference between active and passive voice. How to identify active voice in your writing and you will be given prompts to create a piece filled with action. Group participation encouraged.
Creating Conflict: All stories are conflict driven. Unless your characters are making choices under pressure, there is no conflict and without conflict, your reader will become bored and close your book. No one wants that. This workshop is designed to show you how to keep your readers turning pages and how to make your characters as uncomfortable as possible. Writing prompt and group participation encouraged.
Fix Any Plot with the 5Ws
Who What When Where Why. Those questions fill any plot hole, regardless of the problem. By asking the 5Ws I don’t step on your voice, but direct the story to its rightful place. In real time & with lots of questions from me, I’ll help you find your way and make your book the best it can be.
World Building: I love making up new worlds and have in my middle-grade fantasy series. This workshop is designed to teach writers how to create an imaginative, full-blown setting for their characters to run around in.
Character Development: A workshop designed to teach all the elements needed to construct a three-dimensional character that pops off the page.
The Writing Process: Just how does an author spend her time? A detailed workshop on how I go about writing my books.
How To Write A Novel: This workshop is tailored to fit the need of the students. Can be done in one session or over three. Topics included: Plot, Character, Conflict, POV, Setting, Structure
