Developmental Editing
A writer needs a developmental edit. For every book.
If you want to tell the best story possible, to speak your truth, you can't do it alone. No one can. It’s great to have critique partners who can give you feedback, but let’s be honest. Sometimes our critique partners either don’t know what’s wrong or are too afraid to tell you straight up you need to fix something.
That’s where I come in. I will be your guide to a better book.
I can fix any developmental problem. I can tell you where your story is falling apart without even reading the manuscript. I understand story structure and what makes a reader turn the page. You can benefit from the nearly twenty years I've spent learning the craft of creative writing.
I have published sixteen books (traditionally and indie) with more on the way. I have taught creative writing classes for the past eleven years. I won’t get in the way of your voice. By asking you the right questions, I will help you develop a strong, interesting plot and rich, complex characters your readers will connect with again and again.
Here's what you'll get in one of my edits:
How I work:
I will make suggestions throughout the manuscript and provide an editorial letter for a per page charge. If you’re looking for something less involved, I can provide only an editorial letter without specific feedback inside the manuscript for a per hour charge.
Or, we can brainstorm on the phone and work through your plot and possible conflict issues. Also, a per hour charge.

- Fixing plot holes
- Creating or removing plot layers to enhance the story
- Ensuring your conflict rises and makes sense
- Character development
- Identifying the goals and motivations of those characters
- Ensuring your use of emotion
- Show vs Tell (ties into emotion and proper use of setting)
- POV issues
